Commissioner of Oaths

A Commissioner of Oaths (aka “Commissioner for taking Affidavits”) is an official who administers oaths or affirmations on documents. An oath or affirmation may be required on affidavits, statutory declarations, or government forms. Commissioner of Oaths services are available through the Office of the City Clerk, located at Vaughan City Hall.

The Office of the City Clerk does not issue certified true copies or provide the services of a Notary Public.

Commissioning Appointments and Fees

 

Applicants making an oath or affirmation on a document must do so in person. Commissioner of Oaths services are scheduled by appointment. To reserve a time, you may contact the Office of the City Clerk at 905-832-8504.

 

Fees:

  • $38.53 for the first document (plus HST)
  • $23.94 for each additional document (plus HST)

 

Please bring the following items with you to your appointment:

  • The document requiring a Commissioner of Oaths signature. The document should not be signed until in front of the Commissioner, but should otherwise be complete.

  • 1 valid piece of government-issued photo identification.

 

It is solely the responsibility of the applicant to obtain and prepare all forms which require a Commissioner of Oaths signature.

 

Verification of Life Certificates for Pensioners

 

This is a free service offered to senior citizens who require verification of life certificates. Appointments are required, to arrange a verification of life certificate appointment, please call 902-832-8504. You must attend in person and provide proof of identity and residence (e.g. Ontario Motor Vehicle License, Old Age Security Card, or Canadian Citizenship Card).
